Agh, we were scuppered by snow
Angela, Annette, Barbara, Helen, Hazel, Jeni, Steve and Sanjive
We should have been a gang of curious folk exploring the Walney wonder that is Allotment Soup today but the snow put paid to our long talked about and looked forward to plan. At least we've been able to rescheduled to 19th May, hoorah.
Instead, eight of us met in Grange and put one foot in front of another along Grange Prom which we've ambled before, but this time we turned left once under the bridge at the Commodore car park and walked past the station to the end and back. It's often a slow meander as we go because there's so much to talk about - and we stop at various points as someone spots something to share with the group.
Conversation turned to available land and good land, not just any land for growing. We covered funding, talked maps, spotted the elephant humps (or backs) - some snow covered, some now - all far into the distance towards Ingleborough.
The birds in the foreground water channel were amazing to watch as they moved along the waterline and onto the glistening banks of wet sand. There were curlews, godwits, redshanks, gulls, mallard, black headed gull and a little egret.
The day was amazing, a great antidote to a perhaps disappointing weather intervention - but maybe we should see it as a positive and unexpected change that did us all some good.
