Circling Barber Green

Annette, Anthea, Jeni, Julian, Rose, Sioelan, Steve

With the mizzling rain drifting away we set off to circle round Barber Green.

We spotted wild garlic, dog's mercury and lords and ladies, a celandine and daffodils - oooh, nearly there. A few lambs were gambolling - their giddy legs dancing and jigging - almost independently of each other and the white fluffy wriggly body they supported.

An allotment space full of potential and untouched dreams - we wondered and pondered about its past, and about its future too. We talked of foraging, of edibles and poisons. We learnt of histories of local buildings and their owners wider worldly connections.

A walnut tree stood strong and bare in an empty hedge, we heard tell its nut production line has slowed to virtually nothing now, old age creep and weathering winds have left a wonderful gnarly outline of it's jaggly branches.

Leaning over a stone built wall we heard of flax and retting ponds and running water.

For a morning we gathered and immersed ourselves in wonderful shared conversation. Each time new people connect and share stories, rising and falling voices drift out into the landscape.

We laughed and posed; shadowy statues in the glorious sunlight.

With huge thanks to Annette for sharing her lockdown route - we loved it all.

Springing whilst circling

two handfuls of walkers set off
down lanes most we knew not
    spring peeped through quietly
    with amazing variety
and we finished with a ridiculous shot
